what is the best software to get to filter spam from an email account. I have a business email which of course is splattered across several web sites that is receiving a stupid amount of spam every day now. im using out look express on windows xp

cheers

I use Outlook (proper outlook as part of office) which has a good anti-spam filter on it, plus i've configured my server with an antispam filter so a lot of it is just rejected before it reached my inbox.

You really want to kill spam at a gateway prior to it being delivered to your server. There are a number of products for this. Opal have an excellent spam system called mailcontroller (Don't be put off by CPW owning them) and you have the likes of Black Spider and message labs.

Also, you could buy a firewall is some from of IDS and spam filtering, Zyxel do one called the UTM, sonicwall also do something similar. They both work fairly well.

I'm interested in what you have installed? IMF? more details & costs if any please?

We've used a solid postfix config, ClamAV and SpamAssassin mainly on the server - all are free, but do require a solid knowledge to set up securely.

I've also had Exchange with blacklist filtering in the past which seemed to work pretty well, but exchange is expensive...
