Software for HP server

Hi Is there any free server\Nas software that's like synology?

I have a synology ds211j but I want to move up to a 4 bay but the price of an synology 4 bay is way out of my price range.
So I'm looking at the HP one but the software for it is limited. So you guys\gals that have one what do you thinks the best?

Ive not tried it myself as I also wanted XBMC on it as well, also its been posted on the microserver thread that there is a bug in it that doesn't allow the harddrives to go to sleep.

Do you think the HP N40L with Synology software on it's as fast as a synology(say) DS213 or faster?

Going to put DS station on if I ever get one


As DS station is already on my HD wonder if the HP would boot up? can't wait to find out.
