Software for logging media filenames down as text file.

I will probably do a really bad job of explaining this but bear with me.
I havent got enough space to do a proper back up of my Movies and TV, just family photos etc so i was wondering is there any kind of software i could get that would log down the file names for all my media in a text file so if worst come to worst and i lost them due to drive failure, i could easily re acquire them again.

if the media information is actually predominately/accurately captured in meta-data , inside the file, then loading multiple files into vlc and doing a screen capture
