Software for password protecting folders?

Most people, like me

, don't have windows ultimate. Basically I want to password protect a folder that would require the password each time it was opened. Is there any software (or widows option I may have missed) that will allows me to do this without doing anything else?

Truecrypt is great, but mounting and dismounting every single time I access the folder is quit annoying.

If it's a case of not letting your Mum browse your porn collection then just use NTFS permissions.

I'm just glad there are so many mature people around here

I should have said password + encrypt, hence no NTFS permissions, without the hassle of having to mount/access via a program. Something that just sits in the tray and throws up a dialogue when you open the folder is really what I'm after but everything I've found requires the user to mess with whatever program interface they're using.

I can't be the first person to want a simple encryption program

The easiest thing would be to use an encrypted RAR archive which will act just like a folder.

It's just a tad annoying that whenever you extract something you will need to scrub the temp folder and securely erase the extracted file.

You only need to go to that trouble if its kid porn... I don't think his mom is gonna be un-deleting files...

By default it only creates temp files if the archive is on a removable disk. And if you care that much then you'd use a truecrypt volume instead.

why dont u just hide your folders?

turn off 'viewing hidden folders' and when u need it, turn it on. simple =)

You can try Folder Password Expert. It's an encryption program so it's perfect for smaller folders but may be slow if your folders contain some gigs of data.
