My friend has a small shuttle system mainly used for surfing and watching Videos/DVDs but he went and put an nVidia 6800GT in and the noise from the fan is terrible!

I'm looking for a small app that can slow down the cards fan.

Downloaded Speedfan last night and have been playing with it but I can't see how to 'automate' the speed-reduction process? Everytime I restart the PC the fan is back to running 100%.

Any Speedfan tips or recommendation of some other software that can perform this task?

Thanks! :)

ok bit of a nub to this here...

How do i do reduce fan speed using riva tuner? :D?
Is there no graph or value or anything to show current %/speed?

Lol I can't get it to work either! :D

Found the bit for the fan setting but it's not having any effect?

What am I doing wrong? Speedfan can access and control the 6800GT's fan speeds but Riva-tuner doesn't seem to be working? (nForce3 mobo).

Strange as it works fine with my 7800gs card....good job as its a turbine at 100%!!! Miss the vf700 i had on old 6600gt card

Pressume dropping the "performance 3D" slider has no effect as it set at 100% in that pic?

Other option would be to get a fan controller and use that. Sunbeam rheobus is a really good one for about £15

mmm i go onto low level, everythings blanked out, click "install" and everythings ok... but no fan settings or anything.

I get a window pop up with the stuff in after clicking low level system tweaks", and it has one tab saying NVSTRAP driver

I cant find any window that looks like wayne's :/

No fan option there, its on a different tab

Hmm is there any other software apps that can control fanspeeds? :D

[edit] I think Rivatuner is trying to control the wrong fan maybe, looking at the card in Speedfan I can see this:

Is there a way to get Rivatuner to try and control a different fan? as you can see in the above pic the card appears to have two fan-sensors and I'm guessing Riva is trying to control the wrong one?

fan control depend's on your gpu and driver's,this is what i have

since you don't have this might have to use the the forceware tab and system settng, if this fail's then perhap another program would be a better option.if you have ntune this allow's gpu fan control also but isn't as reliable as rivatuner. maybe try cool bit's?

Look in: Driver Settings > Customise > System settings (red outline in pic).

Still can't get it to work? I am wondering if:

- Speedfan being installed is somehow stopping RIVA from working?

- This is a Windows MCE 2005 installation and I've had certain things not work on this before that work fine in regular windows XP, namely Cool'n'Quiet'.

Will have another fiddle but what other apps are there? Does ATI-Tray-tools work on an nVidia card?

Or does anyone know a way to make 'Speedfan' work automatically on bootup?

Click the customize arrow above the one you've clicked. It's on the same page as the overclocking bit, if memory serves.
No its not there, its on the lower tab as indicated in the pic

These are the drivers I am using?

ATITool? The latest beta version works with Vista if the program is run as administrator.

I dont know if it works for the 6xxx gen nvidia cards though.

there is a way to do it invista using the pwere management bit in control panel but doesnt totally reduce it

"Open Power Options/Settings and select Power saver as the plan.
Click on Change plan settings for the Power saver.
In the next window select Change advanced power settings
In the Power Options Advance settings scroll down and expand Processor power management. For both Minimum processor state and Maximum processor state set both to 100%. Click ok Save changes. Note: It may take a minute or 2 for the graphics card fan to go off after performing these steps."

Worked for me at first but then stopped for some reason.
