I use my laptop for recording samples of my piano (for practice purposes) and I use the XP's built-in Sound Recorder. It's been fine just using the built-in microphone and I've now got a PZM microphone to hopefully improve things but I'm finding the 60 second limitation of the sound recording an issue as I'd like to record some longer passages. Also, while Sound Recorder is very simple, I'd actually prefer something that would allow me to do one click recording and saving of the previous recording rather than having to click on various menu options.

Can anyone suggest the simplest software possible for such a purpose?

Audacity is generally accepted as being the poor man's software-of-choice for this purpose. Nice and simple to use, good range of options/functions, and free. 'Nuff said.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

That looks perfect, thanks :) I'll have to try it tomorrow morning as it's too late to play now (poor neighbours having to put up with it!). I can't believe it's for free as well!
