Hi guys

I've just built a system with Vista 64bit on it and I'm finding some software to be incompatible so I'm looking alternative suggestions.

Firewall - something not so invisible as Windows firewall...I was using Comodo but it's not compatible with 64 bit

Speedfan

TAT (Intel Thermal Analysis Tool - can't find this anywhere )

Firefox 64bit? I've found a website offering this but it's not directly linked to Mozilla nor can I find mention of it on the firefox site so I don't know if it's genuine or not.

Spybot (Ad-aware works but I like to have several)

3DMark06 This looked like it wanted to install DirectX9 (when V10 is installed) so I cancelled the DirectX installation and it won't seem to run without it.

(I may add to this list of I think of anything else)

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Spybot and 3d mark run with no problems what so ever, it will only try to install dx9 it will see you have a newer version and be happy with that.

TAT, as far as i know has been pulled from release anyways as it was killing some cpus in extream circumstances.

You should have no issues with vista 64bit mate, its 32bit backwards compat. is excellent.

And can i ask, are you behind a router? if so does it have NAT? and is it on. If it is you dont need a firewall. just ensure you have a good antivirus app such as Avast.

All the firewalls that are free for Vista x64 are either in alpha or beta stage, unless you go with a paid Firewall/AV combo from Kaspersky,Bitedefender etc...

Spybot works fine(Im using lastest version now 1.5,1.4 work as well)
.
Firefox 64 bit will work(I have tried it) but personally better using 32 bit firefox(that is what I use) mainly because you can get all the web 32 bit software for it ie java ,flash etc...64 bit version you are limited on what 64 bit web internet software is available, btw I do use Thunderbird 64 bit version and firefox 32 bit combo with my Vista x64 HP.

Speedfan 4.32 works fine( installed on my pc) if yours does not work try latest beta build since that has some more mainboard compatibility.

3DMark06 should work, sounds like the early Nero 7 problem where it said it needed to install DX9,however you just click yes to install DX9 but it does not actually install DX9, it justs installs the software so works fine.

FYI this is my security,Vista firewall, hardware firewall in my router,SpywareBlaster,Spybot 1.5,Avast AV free edition,SuperAntiSpyware free version,Windows Defender(set this to scan once a week, real time scan is off) and last but not least UAC is enabled.

Below is Firefox 64 bit/Thunderbird link,
