It's happening, it's going live now.
3D Coat looks fantastic and I know Bay Raitt the lead modelle of Gollum uses it (I think he now works for Valve). I know that Artrage is completly brilliant and have used it since version 2. I have no idea about GameMaker Studio.
Camerabag however, please be wary of the developers. They made a brilliant 3D modelling application called Silo. It was very well regarded and in he beginning they supported their customer base brilliantly. But support, bug fixes and updates dried up. They stopped talking to their customers. About a month or two ago they closed their own support forum down.
