Not sure which sub-forum to put this in.

I'm experiencing games crashing and freezing. Checking Event Viewer shows issues with the HDD the games are stored on.

Event ID 153: The IO operation at logical block address 0x?????? (I have multiple enteries with different block addresses) for Disk 2 (PDO name: \Device\0000002f) was retried.

Event ID 129: Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

Event ID 10016: DistributedCom -

Not sure where to go with this;

Tried ScanDisk - no errors found
Looked at Smart info - no errors shown
Used Seatools disk checker - It failed once, but has since passed all tests
Used AIDA64 disk benchmark without issue
Searched online - mainly getting suggestions of a bug in Windows Server

The only way I can get an error to show is in game. I'm not sure how to properly stress test the drive?

Any ideas before I buy a new HDD? I'm running Windows 10.

Thanks

Could share a couple of things to try:

Check if GameBarPresenceWriter.exe is running while gaming. If so, prevent it from running (I use Process Lassoo for this - right-click the process and choose Terminate Always).

Go to C: > Windows > System32 > SleepStudy and make UserNotPresentSession.etl a Read Only file. And reboot.

The latter in particular can be terrible on the drive and is somehow activated by some games/circumstances. It keeps writing and writing to the drive while playing. Just yesterday I noticed over 20GB of writes while playing GTA a few hours. I asked my friend to check their writes and they had over 20GB as well. Checked Task Manager and it was this UserNotPresent thing again (I'd made it Read Only back in July which fixed it but the Fall update reset it).

Thanks for the reply, but not noticed that running - will double check later.

Think I sussed it this morning. I ran the benchmark in Samsung Magician and it failed every time. I've replaced the SATA cable, and touch wood it's OK now. It now passes the benchmark and have gamed for around an hour without issue.
