Software to compress mobile data for browsing?

Long story short, I have an intermittent internet connection right now. I want to use my mobile phone as wireless hotspot for a temporary connection, but don't want to use up all my internet allowance on my mobile.

I remember seeing some sort of Firefox addon, or program, that compresses the data so you use less bandwidth. Can anybody help me out?

Opera might be able to do it.

I usually disable images and block flash.

Use Firefox with adblock plus and noscript. noscript will tear the crud from websites, adblock will stop adverts.

Also, if you're browsing forums, turn signatures off!
