Software to make deleted files non-recoverable

Hi there,

I'm upgrading my Hard disk and am going to sell my old one. I have a lot of personal data stored on my disk (banking/password info) and would like to make sure that prior to selling it, the deleted files are not recoverable.

Are there any free programmes which do this - eg make deleted files non recoverable.

Can you not just shred the recycle bin? I thought that did the same thing

Yes, but that option is not native to Windows. You must've installed some application that allows you to do this.

The best tool I've seen to securely erase files both from the file manager and desktop is Eraser:

We use "Kill Disk" at work... Easy.
