Software to model fluid motion.

Hey all, I'm conducting an experiment analysing the motion of spheres and other shapes suspended in fluid. The balls are contained in a water tight container and that container is oscillated linearly.

I've designed the experiment in solidworks 2009, but I can't use the fluid motion simulator built in, as it only allows me to change in inflow and outflow conditions, which would come out with completely different results as the actual experiment.

Before I go of and write my own code, does anyone know of any software that will allow me to do this? I imagine there will be need of such modelling in engineering so such software is bound to exist.

I'm still likely to write my own code as I can use it to pull specific data, but being able to get a rough idea using pre-built software will be useful.

Thanks in advance

You need to use CFD software, you can write it but you'll need pretty good programming skills and a god knowledge of fluid dynamics.

Look at various codes like

StarCD
Fluent

Check ou CFD-online for other progs that might be suitable

At my uni, the software we use is called matlab, can be adapted to quite a lot of applications. But its quite complicated and very expensive

I've used matlab before and it would be only marginally easier to write the code in there, but my god its slow :p

I'll check out fluent and starCD

thanks people
