Software to send text messages?

Can anyone give me any advice on software that sends text messages to mobile phones? Is it something fairly basic or does it involve a lot of contracts etc? I was thinking of using it for meeting and bokking reminders/confirmations.

Ive seen Companies do it where the text message comes from the company name rather than a mobile number.

Any help really appreciated thanks.

I've used kapow.co.uk before, just set up a PAYG account (e.g. buy x amount of SMS credits)

To send an SMS you just need to send an email to [email protected] (x's being the rest of the mobile number), depending on the account you can have a custom From address (e.g. I could have Battfink as opposed to a mobile number)

There are similar services out there, I just went for a hosted service as it was easy & simple

The best service I've used so far and I've been using it for years and it's free, Is cardboardfish, You don't need to sign up, Don't pay anything but you can't receive texts.
