software to test what hardware is broken if any

my dads computer is currently running really, bad, keeps freezing for seconds, minutes, forever, wont play dvds as the screen goes all blodgy with funny colours. you guys suggested it was graphic card and to update driver, afaik i did and didn't fix it so need to find out whats wrong with it.

i just downloaded the trial tuneup utilities but ican't find anything to say if it's wrking correctly. if tuneup doesn't do it is tehre any other software you can suggest to test out whats wrong.

Can you try another graphics card in it, and see if that cures your problem, as it could be a faulty graphics card...

Try memtest to check it isnt a RAM problem. Easiest thing to rule out.
