Okay guys and girls I hope this helps you out, seems Panasonic likes to hide the latest updates from it's customers.

Go to www.panasonic.co.uk
Select Support
Select Ask A Question
In the search field put pal-10 and click ask
The last of the 4 search results should be Software Update For 2010 Vierras so go to that one and there you have the download.
Alternatively this next link might get you there directly, it's ...

So this method is for SD/USB update.

1. Iplayer Cutting out during playback.

Hmm, I have a 50VT20B and haven't had a problem with iPlayer cutting out, probably because the current software doesn't offer iPlayer as feature! Currently I have 2.702 in my telly and doing a check using the TV says no updates.

Is there any feedback as to how safe this upgrade is? I see you need a 32MB SD card to start with so I'm out until I can get one.

Good find OP. Maybe I can get iPlayer at last on the telly :)

Iplayer is on your tv mate it's on the freesat part of the TV so if you have linked the tv to a dish and have internet connection on the TV it will work (red button on BBC 1 channel will take you to Iplayer on freesat or channel 901 or channel 903 for ITV Player coming soon). Also that update seems to fix many other bugs too not mentioned there, because there was other updates after 2.702 that never seemed to appear on their network update but came over the air if you had updates enabled for over the air updates that is. Also the update can be done with a USB thumbdrive, that's how I updated mine just stick the file in the root of the thumbdrive (remember to unzip the file and find the file inside the zip file and copy that to the root) then again follow the instructions turn TV on and where it says SD card read it as USB thumbdrive. :) Ohh and it's a safe update it does a check on the file before making any updates to your tv, no one has mentioned any problems with the updates and I have done mine and no problems to speak of. I have a TX-P50G20BA TV and updated it today to 2.705 and it had 2.703 before that was updated over the air and took almost 2 hours to do over the air grrr. The new update took 5 minutes to do via a thumbdrive :).

Doh, never knew the iPlayer - Freesat link. Perhaps it's worth trying to run another cable from the Sky disk to do this.

Also nice to know a USB thumbdrive will work but again I only have a 16GB one. Do you know if you can use a USB Disc Drive?

Quite impressed the firmware on the telly is 23GB in size though. I still remember the days of sub 1GB hard drives being all you had in the PC :o

It's 23.5mb mate the update, not Gb. The usb stick you have can store it 1000's of times ;-). I just use the extra cable from the sky hd box, input number 2 I unplugged from the sky hd and plugged into the sat connection on the back of the tv. I canceled sky hd so couldn't use the recording feature anyway that is used by input number 2, but having input number 1 connected I can still use the sky hd box to watch channels.

You won't trash it, it's very easy to do, just follow the instructions.

1. download the zipped file you need.
2. unzip the file.
3. format the memory stick.
4. copy the file from the unzipped file to the root (the root is the first place when you open the memory stick with the drive name only and no folders etc)
5. turn on the TV.
6. stick the memory stick in and you will see it says checking file, wait till it's done.
7. then some instructions come up on the screen saying turn off the TV by the main power switch on the side of the tv and wait a few seconds say 15 secs and then turn back on.
8. It will start installing the update and when it's done will turn off and back on, on it's own (just doing a restart).
9. The normal TV channels will appear and that means it's all done.
10. To confirm the update is done and has taken go to system settings and check the system information and you will see system information will contain the new update file number.
