software which shows updates on forums and email?

Hi is there any software which will alert me (even better to preview) to updates on forums of my choice and my email addresses?

Don't most forums have a "New Posts" view or similar [like VBulletin]? Just open up a bunch of tabs and refresh them all now and then!

As for specific software, none that I know of. Then again, it is not something I have ever considered using!
