Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

I'd check out Octopus and Ovo Energy. I went with Ovo over my local installers because I wanted a company that I knew would be around, and because they offered a 0% 3 year financing deal.
you do know the 0% has been added into the cost of the deal, its never free.

2 ways 0% makes sense, buying on a 0% 24 month credit card or getting a 0% green loan on your mortgage.

I looked at Octo and all the nationals and they were way too expensive for the kit you get

Do you need that 20m run to the garage? You can have them outside on the side of the house if it’s easier, it will be cheaper.

The other thing you might hit up against is export limits, you’ll be lucky to get 10kw, you might only get 3.6kw.

Do you have 3 phase? You are also pushing up against the realistic limits of what you can have on single phase supply. 30 450w panels is 13.5kw, that will play nice with a 10kw single phase inverter. 38 panels is pushing 17kw and will probably not.

But yes, get some more quotes because that first one is just silly.
I could pu the batteries on the side of the patio but they wouls need to look reasonable, that would get me away from putting them in the garage. Only have a single phase input into the property.
I’d Get more quotes if I was you, the more the better. I’ve Sent you the name of my installer.
Thank you, ill contact the, to see what they say. I'm with Octopus and did start the quote process but the agents didnt really seem to know what they were talking about.

Ive sent you some info in a PM mate, hope it helps!

My aim this year is to get solar, batteries and eventually a heat pump, but the priority is the solar/batteries.

South facing roof that's unshaded all day should be a good source of energy, although I am a high electricity user due to working from home. Finding a good local installer in East Yorkshire is the golden goose! :D

Also, I'll probably be avoiding Tesla, even though their Powerwall tech does seem good, but, well... Elon.

Not the thread for it, but I happen to agree with @Gazanimal, and I'm also starting to hear of people avoiding Tesla cars for the same reasons.

I disagree, if we are talking about the products they sell it is the thread for it. I think the guy is a ******, but one man does not make a company and I don't think he has yet killed anyone? I mean I refuse to buy any Nestle products, because I am very familiar with how many babies they indirectly killed (corporates manslaughter) due to the baby milk scandal, but I gurantee you that most people here who hate Musk still buy Nestle?

And that is (your) consumer choice to not buy Nestle products, same with others who choose not to buy Tesla. Doesn't make it stupid to do so either way, you can spend your money how & where you like.

I'm sure there's going to be a lot of further investment in battery storage from other big players who want in on that market, so it'll be interesting to see how it grows/changes.

You are correct, and I apologise for saying stupid. However there are so many things that are worse than a single man, no matter how idiotic he is. I suppose the main issue is removing him from said company so that they can continue to build on a quality product that is sour due to one man, where as Nestle are corrupt and can never rectify what they did no matter who is in charge, as you can't bring dead babies back to life.

I appreciate the apology and let's hope whatever Mr Musk does, doesn't cost anyone their lives, although I'm not so certain of it.

GivEnergy seem to have a good reputation on certain aspects with their storage options, but maybe not the premium they could be, although that's down to cheaper pricing?

So I've been potentially selected as a trial for "free" solar and battery by Oxfordshire county council run program via Energy Saver app. Apparently they use a 3rd party company called Metis that does green projects.

12 panels and a 5.2kWh battery is their standard package they offer but pending consultation and site visit. Everything is free with no upfront fees.

The "catch" is I'll be on the hook for £40/month for 5 years and solar panels will be mine after that period. They haven't decided if the batteries can also be purchased yet so either I keep paying £40/month or they will remove the batteries foc. I need more clarity on terms.

It is potentially a very good option. A similar setup would cost me 20 years @ 40/month. The only thing is I would like more battery storage, at least 10kwh because we use about 15kwh on average and charging with overnight rate would be decent.

Any thoughts and experiences?

Yeah if i can convince them to install more panels (east/west roof) and more battery for slightly more monthly cost, the free installation alone is not a bad deal. It's essentially a 0% deal for not profit.

Only thing is as it's a government run project, I'm not sure what tier the equipment on offer will be. I did see on their website, some photos of Givenergy systems on some installations.
