Hi all. I want to put up a security light above where I park my motorbikes. Where they are parked means there is zero options for mains power, so whatever I get will have to be solar powered.

I want to install a solar/battery powered motion activated light. It can be mounted high enough up that it can have a fairly good view of the sky. The wall I'm going to mount it on has a flat roof. Are there any decent ones out there that actually work, give a good light and will last all night long, especially this time of year?

What kind of thing should I be looking at?

Cheers

Whilst not a security light per se I use a Steinel solar wall light on the front of our house. It has motion sensing and a lux sensor.

It's north facing, mostly shaded with permanent dimmed light at night and brigther on motion. In the year it has been up I have never had to top the battery up.

If you're just looking for a basic solar light, I've bought 6 of these and all still going strong. Two for myself and 4 for work colleagues.

Though mine get full sun on east facing walls through the darks of winter, they've never run out of charge. I have them set on dim light constant through the night, then go bright with movement detected.

I had some good ones from mpow 4 years ago that are still going strong, but doesn't look like they make them anymore.

I did see there are now some designs that have a removable solar panel so that it can be placed/angled in more direct sunlight if you're putting it in a more shaded area.
