hey, ive been helping doing some upgrades to some switches in the company i work for and we came across a "shiva atom spider" switch..... as well as a dlink bnc switch YIKES  ...... but when we disconnected the shiva switch and moved it onto a 10/100/1000 netgear unmand switch (we ran out on our main switch forgot the name tho) the dumb terminals which connect to solaris through out network stoped working.... we re connected the shiva switch and came to the conclusion that its some sort of either emulator so it lets you connect multiple terminals or a different protocol or as a mini server or somthing along that line (clutching straws here btw) so i was woundering is there any linux distro that would let us do the same connect to solaris then through that goto the terminals .... the server is on a different site to the shiva switch (across the road).....

The Shiva box is a terminal server so will provide the dumb terminals telnet (over TCP/IP) sessions to Solaris server.

You said that you put the T.S onto another switch. Were you still able to ping it from the Solaris server when you made the change? If not, you should investigate why. (consider fixing the switch port speed to that of the T.S IP interface, making sure it's on the correct IP subnet, etc)

Alternatively, buy everyone brand new desktops and a local switch. :D

i wish lol ..... we tried different ports on full and half duplex...... nothing happend, people were still able to connect through to the database on solaris that wernt on the dumb terminal.....
