Pretty much as title. I've sold my old car about a year ago now and it appears as though the logbook is still in my name despite sending off everything.

Don't know if I have a copy of the new keepers address now still and certainly don't have proof of sending it off.

What is the best thing to do? Anybody been in this situation?

If I SORN the car wont I get a penalty if it is seen driving around?

When you have changed ownership you have to keep the letter you have been sent confirming. If you havnt got that then you are pretty much stuffed unless you have other proof with new owners address and signature on receipt. I got hassled a few years ago. Sold a car to some polish lads who were taking it back home. I sent off the log book, but never received the confirmation letter, luckily kept the receipt, slip and photo driving licence of the new owner. Luckily it was just a tax reminder otherwise if it was driving offences I would have been stuffed without proof and dlva consider the car still in your possession without the letter confirming change of ownership.

They say on the documents that if you don't hear back within X number of weeks, you should contact them.

If you didn't do that, expect them to be less than entirely helpful.

I think jumping to conclusions about the DVLA's reaction isn't too helpful. Best thing to do in these circumstances is pick up the phone, ask the question and see what happens. I don't see a need for Internet panic until you've tried the obvious and not got anywhere. There's every chance it could be sorted very easily.

As for driving offences - you wouldn't be stuffed. Of course it doesn't help your case but you could still convincingly prove you sold the car and that you weren't the one driving
