Hi all,
Just a quickie, need to upgrade my sons GTX560ti 2gb as its on its last legs.
Don`t want to keep him offline too long so what are my options for a good secondhand card, gaming at 1080p 24".
He likes Ark, RoK and Arma, as well as Trove and Skyrim, and the Battle Field collection.

Budget is only £120.

Have considered AMD, or Nvidia again.

The R9 280 / x keeps popping up as a popular choice.

Thanks in advance.

Decent cpu and psu?

280X / 7970. Should have a reasonable amount of change after picking one of those up, too.

Also, you could consider a GTX670 / 760.

280x is a great card and can handle most things at 1080p very well. 290 is also a good shout if you can get one in budget or stretch your budget a little :)

Used 290 would be an absolute stonking upgrade. Try and pick up a used one by bidding on a well known site.

Very unlikely you'll get a 290 for £120. I''ve been checking on an auction site and 290's go for between £140-£170, 290X's are around £180-£210. A 7970 (same as 280X) is your best bet for around £100-£120.

Got an as new Gigabyte WindForce R9 280x for £130, winner...

Thanks Everyone, it has transformed his gaming, He shouted downstairs while playing Ark..."Dad come and look at the grass...!!!"

Brilliant... :D:D:D

Haha I was just glad to see in the OP thats he's not another kid whose brain is rotting playing Minecraft.

You want to play ARK, in order to run this at 60fps with decent settings you need a GPU that hasn't been invented yet, and only one of them as it doesn't support any form of multigpu rendering.

The game is awfully optimised.

As others have said, stretching to a 290 (nonx) would be the best you can get for the budget.
