Looking for some inspiration for a solo holiday in December. I’m comfortable with solo travel but struggling to come up with any destinations.

Requirements - some nightlife, great food, relatively warm, hopefully other solo travellers, I like modern history, cars, being in nature but close to civilisation for nightlife. Need a nice spa hotel for at least one night otherwise I’m happy with hostels/airbnbs/premier inn type of hotels.
Budget is pretty flexible.
Can take two weeks so distance isn’t too much of an issue.

I’ve been everywhere in Europe, and been to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, India, China, Malaysia, Mexico, Canada, US, Morocco, UAE, Oman, Jordan.

I’m thinking Caribbean but not sure if it’ll be a bit rubbish on my own. I would have actually went to Israel if it wasn’t for the war!
I really want to go to South Africa, Costa Rica and Argentina but feel the first two would be better with someone.

I don’t really fancy Australia but maybe I’m being unfair to it…

Parts of Africa appeal, but again, single travel I’m not sure of. Should I just go back to Vietnam?…

New Zealand?

Perfect time of the year for it too.

How long? If it's less than two weeks, new Zealand probably isn't worth the travel (but you mentioned Vietnam, and it ain't much further)

Another vote for New Zealand. If you like cars, there’s some absolutely stunning drives on the South Island. Great food and wine too. Some places are fairly sleepy but other towns have a decent night life. Most people are friendly so you shouldn’t feel too lonely as a solo traveller.

It’s a long way to go for less than 2-3 weeks.

Perhaps somewhere like Argentina would be a better bet though.

Argentina is a good shout. I did a tour from Argentina to Peru crossing Chile and Bolivia over the Andes / Altiplano and it was stunning (Bolivia surprisingly was the highlight IMO). Depending what you want to do in Argentina, you could do Buenos Aries, some of Patagonia and then see the Iguassu Falls, that in itself would be a pretty awesome trip.

have you considered an organised tour for solo traveller for south america? My friend went on one and was good few years ago

New Zealand sort of appeals, but not sure I could get more than 2 weeks. Will have a nosey. Also, I imagine it’s very expensive when there…

Argentina could be a good shout. Dare say there are plenty of tours etc. I don’t fancy an organised tour but happy to join excursions. Flights aren’t outrageous actually, around £900.

With that brief I’d be strongly leaning towards Rio de Janeiro. I can’t speak from experience but from what I know from previously looking at going, it would be top of my list.
