Hey people...

I'm flying out tomorrow on holiday alone for the first time and I'm a bit nervous.
Luckliy it's a place that I've already been to in the past and thank the lord, it's not a party resort but the main center of a Greek Island so I can either sit by the pool, on the beach or do the tourist thing of sight seeing.

I was going with a friend but not to put them on blast, they cancelled on me with less the 36 hours and after I checked us in online because they had to reprioritise, with something having to give.
So it's too late to find a replacement :)

Trying to stay positive; I've always fancied seeing some countries and cities that other people ain't interested in, I'm also at that age now that I'll probably need to do a lot more solo traveling if I want to see the world. So I'm going to use this opportunity to see how I feel about traveling alone.

Any tips for for solo holiday makers?

Thanks in Advance...

Solo holidays/trips can be great, I found that I had to set a bit of itinerary for the day else I was at risk of wasting it, even if said itinerary just has you down as on the beach for 8 hours!

I have visited over 30 different countries and most of them I have done solo. I actually got back from Cyprus yesterday and heading to Malta next month for another solo long weekend.

Use Google maps to build an itinerary, I usually do this when Im at the hotel and see from there whats in the area etc.

I enjoy solo travel.

The wife isn't interested in some more spicy places so I venture off on my own. Only one person to look after is great.
This, I like doing long train journeys to random Eastern European countries which is my wife's worst nightmare so I go on my own. Never had any issues - sometimes I get chatting to people, sometimes I don't. I spent the whole night in an Irish bar in Belgrade and didn't speak to a soul other than the barmaid - in my head I thought I'd be swapping stories with expats and travellers, but it just didn't happen.
On the other hand when I was in Budapest alone I chatted to all kinds of people from all over the world.

It's better than you think. For starters, you can do exactly as you please without needing to justify anything to anybody. I really loved that when I first went away on my own.

2nd this i have been away a few times on my own only for a week but enjoyed it every time.

Thanks for the reassurance, truth be known; I've been living on my own for the last 10 years or so, so I was looking forward to having some company.
I've never really go to bars by myself, let alone night clubs unless I'm meeting someone there but I think I'm too old for the night clubs now anyway.

I probably hire a push bike and just cycle about the place, thou I've not packed any cycling shorts or water bladders with me.

I have been away to weddings etc for long weekends in the UK before but it was a case of going there, staying in a hotel, doing what I needed to do then going home. So this will be a new experince, if all goes well.. I'll plan to take on Istanbul for a long weekend and Japan next year.

I enjoy solo travel in city's that have a lot to see and do Rome and Budapest etc.

Night time can be abit boring usually crack out Tinder etc before sometimes you get lucky like Helsinki recently ;)

solo holidays are the best. Complete freedom to go where you want, do what you want, when you want. Ultimate definition of a relaxing holiday.

You try going on holiday with a family, you get back home and need a holiday

Well.... I went away and had great time!
It would have been nice to have someone to go for a drink with in the evenings but there was enough people at the hotel bar, I didn't fancy "clubbing it" as a billy no mates.

At the same time having lived by myself for so long, I guess it would have also felt odd having to live with someone for the whole week.

I'm now thinking of planning a solo trip in Japan in April... :D

Do it! But book now….flights and hotels are crazy. You’ll be looking at like £2k for flight and hotel on the cheap end of the scale for a 10 day trip, not including food or spending money.

Japan is designed for solo travellers like nowhere else, you can go into any local bars or Yatai stall on your own and strike up a conversation, they are designed that way as they are small and intimate.
