Normally I go skiing a couple of times per year but this year my usual ski partners either can't afford to go or can't get time off work so if I wanna go I'll have to go alone.

Now this doesn't bother me but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any ski companies that cater for solo skiers. Has anyone here ever been skiing alone? If so, who did you travel with?

Solos do some but I think its a bit expensive and I dont really like the sound of it.

Never done it but I would go for a private flight and try to do a personal booking with a hotel near the end of the season. Forget February unless you like paying through the nose. April can be very good if you get higher altitude, and dont mind some slush lower down, plus skiing in a t-shirt is

To be honest I'd just look at arranging it myself, nearly had to this year actually, but in the end managed to convince a few people to come with. Still ended up doing the arranging myself, but its slightly easier and cheaper (per person) with more than 2 of you.

Not too hard to book, just make sure its a resort you have done before, so that a) you know the piste layout / resort layout, b) already know accomodation recommendations for the resort, and c) know how to get from the airport to the resort.

:)

My brother sorts his own ski holiday out every year, just books some flights early on then gets a hire car and tours about a few states in the US for a month or so visiting resorts and hills and staying in local motels/hotels. Been on a couple of his trips and it's been great fun, get to see the places the brochures never mention.

Never been skiing(or snowboarding(pfft to Jokester's sig :p lol)) alone, but it would seem like bliss, not having to wait for people, go where you want, have some music on, and do some off piste boarding.... I want to go away now :( lol.

I usually end up skiing alone anyway so that side of it doesn't bother me, it's just arranging the holiday that is the difficult bit atm (and it's made even more difficult trying to fit it in around meetings at work n stuff)

Anyone know which resorts are easy to get to from the various Easyjet airports? (preferably just jump on a bus rather than have to drive)

the 3 valleys are easy to get to from geneva - as are Tignes, Val D'Isere... actually, I just had a look and there's way too many to name.

Have a look on Altibus.com - I used them last season when I had to make my own way to Val Thorens as I had an exam the afternoon our bus left (bus left at 11am). Had no problems at all, they take you right up to the resort - I got a coach to Moutiers and then put into minibuses or big taxis up to the resorts.

Have a look at the other easyjet airports too, I had to fly to Geneva because I had to be at Val T for a certain time, but I guess you don't have that restraint.

My big sister did that a few times, although one of them was more geared towards single people perhaps looking for a partner (although in a respectable way for older professionals).

Alternatively, I have had a great holiday with Club Med in Les Arcs. Included a free ski guide (or an instructor for the less experienced), nightly entertainment in a cliched french way, unlimited food and alcohol and had an intereting mix of people. Lots of french, germans and dutch, but a good chunk of freindly brits and not lager louts. Easy to meet people.

Fly to geneva and you can take a train to lots of places in switzerland or a bus to france. Verbier will have good end of season snow.

Be warned that the alps are in pretty terrible shape below 2000-2500m. This last weekend saw rain up high. South Slopes below 1800m are bare.

A lot of the ski resorts have very good tourist info websites- esp. switzerland where you can get fast responses to email requests.

Youth hostels can be great for meeting people but vary in quality. I have stayed in Zermatt and the hostel was amazing, better than a basic hotel really. Last weekend I was in Grindlewald- the hostel was clean but very basic, however it was right next to the lift.
