I have an older machine (X79) which was running Windows fine. I've have a new SSD as I gave my old one to my son. I have tried to install Windows on it using the Media Creation tool on a USB stick but am struggling.

I boot into the MCT on USB and it goes through the expected screens to enter a key, select the drive to install to and then perform the install. After a while it says that it needs to reboot to complete the install. But when it reboots it just goes back to the beginning again asking for the key and then trying to reinstall. I also tried taking the USB stick out to see if it would boot from the SSD but reboot fails as i says I need to insert boot media.

It's been quite a few years since I had to reinstall Windows but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Nevermind. I've solved the problem. I had to change my boot order in the BIOS from the SSD to UEFI. I'm out of touch with such Windows oddities nowadays as Linux doesn't need that kind of setting. Until I did that it was skipping the SSD as I seem to recall Windows needs UEFI to boot.
