Soooooo, wandered over to the dark (or is it light) side and swapped my 670s for 7970s (well technically for 680s, but gonna be selling those when i get them back :P)

Been a while since ive used AMD (or ATI) and I know that the 12.11 betas are the drivers or choice (or are they?)

But questions are:

1) What Caps (?) do I want / need?
2) Are these just "installed" then away you go or is any tweaking / setting up needed?
3) What are decent overclocks on a 7970 Ligtning and what volts should I be looking at ?
4) Would I benefit from a BIOS flash over the standard ligtening BIOS or not ?

Thanks and sorry for the n00b questions :D

I been wanting to put a similar thread up as i have no idea what ATI drivers even look like these days or whether they have anything similar to nvidia on set up options, custom resolutions, digital vibrance alternative etc

1) 12.10 CAPS. They're crossfire profiles primarily but can also help single card performance in some games
2) You install them after the drivers then you're good to go
3) I'll let PGI answer but in excess of 1250 MHz should be a decent balance between speed and heat/noise
4) Not really IMO. You can traditionally overclock to achieve the same end result

Your PSU will be fine. I can pull 1150W from the wall by running my 3930K at 1.495V (5GHZ) and 680s at 1.45V. If you intend to clock your 7970s above 1.3V then maybe you will but I believe that is the max voltage you can get?

But you "only" have 2 cards ?

Crap bud, ignore my last post. I didn't read properly and now realise you are getting 3 of them (greedy) :p You will need a new PSU for sure with big clocks :(

Just out of interest, could you post your BIOS settings for your 3930K overclock please. Would be very helpful to me, i have a 3930K on the X79 Sabertooth and my CPU sucks. Just want to cross reference some settings.

lol, nom nom :P thats what im thinking - I only got em in yesterday and they are fine at stock but had a few power outs when started to OC them :S

Yeah, no problem, ill do it when I get home, but i havent had it that long (coming from a 3820) and not really played / tweaked it, its basically 115 x 44 and auto volts on all but the CPU which I set at 1.49

Cheers bud.

I need 1.42v Vcore set in BIOS to get 4.6GHz.... i lost at the silicon lottery :(

5.0ghz is a good clock on that 3930K but under stock frequency on the RAM!!!!

Shame on you man!!! lol

Lol :P

Thank you :) - It'll do 5.2 but I'm still learning on this x79 platform and need to sort these GPUs out before I start on the RAM :D
