I just ordered myself a new case, PSU and graphics card, and plan on installing everything myself. But the only experience i've had is with installing a new graphics card in the past everything else i've had done for me. I think it's about time i have a go at something more for myself and was wondering if anyone can offer some advice as to what I need to do etc.

Such as whether or not when moving the motherboard I have to take everything off of it or can I leave the CPU/RAM attached and move it straight from one case to the other. Also is there a reccommended order of moving components from one case to the other to make life a bit easier.

Any advice would be appreciated thanks :)

Yeah it's fine to leave the CPU and RAM in, I'd put the motherboard in before the PSU, then stick in any drives. That's about it really, just make sure you ground yourself before you start just in case there's any problems with static.

Hi there, welcome to teh OCUK forums! :D

My first advice would be to give this a good read. Greywolf did a great job and much of it will apply to you.

If you are moving a motherboard from one case to another I would suggest just keeping the CPU, RAM and cooler attached to the board and moving it carefully. If you need to put the motherboard down make sure you rest it on a clean, non-conductive surface (I find cardboard works well) .

Out of interest, what are the spec of your current kit and what specific case, GPU and PSU did you go for?

Currently have got a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R motherboard, 8gb RAM, 9800GT 512mb, i5 dual core at 3.33ghz, unsure about what the case and PSU is as they've been the same since a friend built the original. Everything else was installed recently by somebody else.

What i've just bought is-
