Kinda in a dilema and could use some advise if anyone can give any.
Got a 2900XT at the moment and thinking of buying a 3870 XT. Reason being that it's less power consumption, much less heat, less noise and may be a very little amount faster. Plus due to the price I can buy another around Christmas and have Crossfire on my P35 board. So really the 3870 XT is a sidegrade for the moment but lets me get another one for a cheap price towards the end of the year or get a Q9450 to replace my E6400.
Wanted to do this because I think my 2900XT will loose a large amount of value in a few days when the 3870 XT's hit and wanted to get it sold before that so I can at least save cash and probably just sell the 2900XT and buy a 3870 without adding any money. Is this is a good idea or should I just hang around for the 3870 X2 or the 8850 GX2 in January/February? Although by that time I'm expecting my 2900XT will be worth about £100 tops which was my primary concern. Guess the options would be:
1. Sell 2900XT now and buy a 3870 without adding any money (or very little), then get a Q9450 early next year, so 1x 3850 and a Q9450.
2. Sell 2900XT now and buy a 3870 without adding any money (or very little), then get another 3870 for Crossfire and keep my E6400 instead of getting a Q9450 and having only 1x 3870.
3. Keep my 2900XT until 3870 X2 / 8850 GX2 arrive, buy one of them and keep my E6400 instead of getting a Q9450 as the value of my 2900XT will drop and the dual gpu cards will be around £250 - £300.
What would you do?
