HI there everyone, was just looking to see if i could get some advice on a core i7 build that im planning.

The components that ive assembled so far look a something like this:

sorry if thats a bit hard to read. I already have a monitor lined up (1900 x 1200) and have a HD, sound card and optical drive so these dont need to be included in the budget. Main reasons for upgrading is because my current pc is on its last leg (built it around 3-4 years ago) and am looking to be able to play some of the latest games without just barely making the minimum specs. I also want to make this build fairly quiet as noise is a big issue with my pc at the moment and would like to be able to have the pc on and not have to turn the volume up quite a bit just to hear over the fans.

ok, so i had a few questions regarding this build, namely:

1) Would it be more cost effective / better value to go for a 4850 in crossfire or a 4850x2 instead of a 4870x2. Also, while reading some of the reviews of the 4870x2 i'm slightly concerned about the heat it will be producing and also the noise (as you may have guessed im trying to make this new pc as quiet as possible) so was just wondering if it would be better in general to go for a lower end card (s) with a custom heatsink? or is the heat and noise issues with the 4870x2 exaggerated?

2) I was also interested in whether another case with a similar idea of noise minimising would be a more viable option than the one ive chosen. In particular would a lian li in the same price range (60-80) give the same level of sound dampening and would there be any significant benefits over the sileo 500.

3) Is the noctua cpu cooler really that good and is it truly worth the extra price over comparable coolers? Just to note, i will be doing some overclocking but wont be doing anything too crazy. Also i want to keep noise levels down so was wondering whether the difference in sound that this cooler produces would be noticeable (audible)?

4) Lastly are there any general suggestions to improve this build (maybe more cost effective components than the ones ive put down ) or any advice on reducing the cost overall?

Sorry for the long post but just wanted to clear a few things up before i make the plunge. Thanks in advance for your help.

cheers :)

Only thing Id say is have a look at an Nvidia 285, the ATI's do produce heat and noise, the Nvidia's are better at this, whilst the 4870X2 is a better specced card the 285 will be ample and quieter. Rest of system looks good, though you could go for a Zalman or PC P&C PSU as theyre quieter
