hi guys,

i know i shouldnt be looking to change things already ive barely had my system 48 hours ha ha but needs must.

i bought this system
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-270-OK&groupid=43&catid=1078&subcat=

im really happy with it for the price and after adding a gts 450 graphics card it works really well.

the case is this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-043-OP&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=505

now it says in the description that it can house 2 80mm fans 1 at the rear and 1 at the front but im slightly confused. i measured the hole centres in the panels for fans and got the following all measurements are roughly there or there abouts.

front fan location behind front cover

1 - 70mm
2 - 82.5mm
3 - 110mm

side panel fan locations?

1 - 105mm

Rear fan location

2 - 82.5mm

sorry to bore you with the pics and measurements. so from looking at the above what actual size fans could i fit? and which ones would be best. anything is a plus as there arent any at the moment but something that isnt to noisy.

thanks for looking and i appreciate any responses.

Haven't got a fan to hand, or a ruler for that matter but I'd say your 110mm is for a 120mm fan.

70mm for a 80mm fan
82mm for a 92mm fan

Not sure about the 105mm though, perhaps it's just a 120mm as well but harder to measure.

And those are some of the most restrictive fan locations I've seen for quite some time. I'd get the dremel or tin snips out if I were you. The rear spot isn't too bad but the front must be around 50% restricted.

Ah I just noticed you bought the system complete so hacking away at fan grilles would probably invalidate your warranty. I'm not sure but reckon it would.

thanks for the info guys, the sizing of the fans helps a lot. as for cutting the mesh etc. would you almost recommend cutting the whole mesh on the front location just leaving the holes to mount the fan and the same with the rear one? as for the side panels i could just open out the holes or make a few minor adjusments to the hole layout. im not shy to use a dremel etc. use them everyday at work so thats not an issue.

i will ring overclockers to see if it would invalidate my warranty. hopefully not as its not playing with any parts as such just making the air route my direct and less restrictive.

There's a thread about cutting fan holes in this section that may help.

What I do is use a 120mm wire finger guard, you know the ones that are like a few circles of decreasing size and use the outer ring to Mark a line around the case grille as a perfect guide. You dont want to make the hole too small or large.

You can then grab some u channel to dress the edge. Just last week I picked up 2m of 6mm u channel which looks nice enough.
