Guys,
I thought I would have a bash at geting my i7 920 to 4GHz but failed miserably. I have a C0/C1 stepping i7 so I thought it would be hard going.

Well pretty much every time I tried at 4GHz I got a BSOD. I tried everything from lowering RAM speeds, vcore, speedstepping, HT but to no gain.

I have decided that the chip is just not up to it.

Anyroad I decided to settle with 3.8GHz (190 x 20) vcore @ 1.25v, memory at 1523MHz (8-8-8-24). This is IntelBurn test stable so that'll do me.

What I was wondering was that I have speedstep disabled but according to CPU-Z the CPU is still being stepped down i.e at this moment in time it is at 190 x 16 = 2600MHz. Is this normal?

My temps during load are at an average of 69 degrees (on water), does this seem normal?

Hmm I'm not sure if that's normal but why do you have SpeedStep disabled in the first place?

Also, did you try increasing the QPI/DRAM voltage? I can only reach 3.8GHz with this left at stock - I need it to be 1.25V to stop BSODs at 3.9-4GHz (mostly whilst idle).

Basically turned off speedstep to remove an extra variable whilst trying to achieve best overclock.

I will be turning it back on but thought it very strange that as its disabled it looks like it is still being stepped

What is the best rule of thumb for QPI/DRAM voltage, I currently have it set at 1.25v the same as CPU voltage.

DRAM voltage I have set at 1.66v.

From what I hear the QPI should be within .5v of memory voltage.
What speed is your unicore / QPI Link, I need mine @ 3600mhz, this might need adjusting.
