Some advice on on OC core i7.

Hi guys im trying to get 3.8 stable on core i7 920. What should is set the uncore frequency and the QPI link? i have HT on aswell as cpu boost. Ram multi is set to 6x

QPI as low as it goes, pretty sure that's x36.

Uncore has to be at least twice the ram multiplier, twice +1 or twice +2 are other options. I suggest x14, but you'd be wise to try x12 to x16 as it'll be system dependent to a degree.

HT will make it hotter but *shouldn't* affect stability much, turbo can do. Most people find x19 or x21 to be the most stable multipliers, x21 needs turbo boost on. I'm having the most luck at x20.

I tried the multi to 12 and system didnt boot had to take battery out to reset bios i guess i will try 13 on the uncore.

Yeah, mine wont boot at x12 either. Not stable at x13. Still, uncore = twice ram is the standard advice.

Seems to be an issue with Gigabyte X58 boards, as mine wont POST neither with 12x uncore multi, I have to use 13x when I'm using the 6x mem multiplier.

I noticed cpu clock speed at the top of my bios page on my gigabyte board. it is set to 20x what should i set it too?

Sounds like the cpu multiplier, either you'll be able to set it to x21 or turbo is disabled. Or the UD3R bios works differently to the UD5 one, in which case I don't know.

x19 is the safe bet, x21 the recommended. A few people use x20 because they have issues with x21.

Got mine at 20x no turbo boost off. I am using a AC 7 Pro Rev 2. got my processor at 3.8 on 20x and it passed 5 times with intel cpu burn test. Highest temps was 81 on core 0 the rest was in the mid to late 70s. I would like to push it higher. should 85c be the max temps i take my core i7 too?
