Hi Folks, Very long time lurker, first post.

I would like some advice on a possible machine spec which is a upgrade from my old PC. I currently have a I7 7700 3.6Ghz and Rtx 2080 and G-Skill Trident Z DDR432Gb ram and a Asus ROG Maximus XI hero MB.. I also have Samsung M.2's in old PC.. I have looked at this spec on another site and would like to some advice if anything could be improved on it or would it be fine as is? Not mega fixed on it being Intel but I know nothing about AMD bits and pieces.. This comes in at about £2500 + Vat is just under £3k. I would like to run AAA games on a decent setting. My current monitor is AG352UCG6.. Main game for this year would be Starfield and Cyberpunk

Thanks for looking and any suggestions/advice would appreciated D&T

For gaming this type of build will absolutely spank the build you initially linked. You may want to remove the name of the competitor.

What I suggest is you do what Gray2233 says and ring up OCUK and ask if they can build this in the case of your choice and get a quote. If you like the Hyte Y60 then ask if it works with this build and listen to their suggestions if they have any.

The Hyte Y60 are lovely cases but they do have a major problem. If you want the gpu mounted vertically then some GPUs are just too thick and you cannot put the side window on. The 4070 will fit vertically mounted because it is a low power GPU and not that thick but if you were to go for a 4090 they are very very thick cards and need a lot of space. If you want the gpu mounted in a standard horizontal fashion then no problem at all and go for any case that you like the look of.

Thats a quality build the only thing i would suggest is maybe going for some 6000mhz cl30 ram.

Personally, I think the build suggested it a vast improvement, however, being a little more traditional and if it is really to last you the 4/5 years, would go for a high end air cooler.

You won't even save a lot of money (think about £80 - £110 for high end dual fan set up) but longevity, simplicity and safety wise is how I would go.

The Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE is excellent for the price, I mainly included the Arctic Freezer AIO as the OP seemed to like the idea of some bling/aesthetics judging from the system he was looking at.

That's one of the few AIO's I'd personally consider using tbh.

Many thanks all for the help and suggestions, they are really helpful. I did link a particular build but tbh I am not overly bothered about lots of lights and blingy stuff I kind of prefer practical over aesthetics. I usually look to upgrade around every 3/4 yrs so usually look for a decent rig that has a bit of life in it..

If that's the case a decent £40-60 air cooler should be ample for the recommended build. The case is a little blingy, but the main plus is that it's mesh fronted and includes four fans so you get plenty of healthy airflow out of the gate.

Frankly you'd be very hard pressed to build a better gaming system right now for any amount of money when using the 7800X3D and 4090 as a baseline.

No worries.

Please keep us updated as to how the process goes, as well as your final impressions!

As a plus, the AM5 platform is likely to remain strong for a good 3-5 years -- I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could pop another top tier GPU and a 9800X3D into the system by the time you decide to refresh.

Hey Folks... I didn't proceed with the options listed due to stuff..... now that out of the way looking to get sorted on the new gaming front PC would you change anything on the suggested specs please? I know its been a few months so wondered if this is still good to go or anything better?

Many thanks for your help
