Hi

In the next few days, probably friday I will be ordering my new system which will be a huge upgrade from my current system, I have posted the new system specs below and wondered what people think about the new specs, please bare in mind that I will only be using a single GPU and I will be overclocking although nothing too extreme as of yet.

OLD SPECS
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Skt A
CPU: AMD Athlon 2000XP
Memory: 2x 256mb Crucial DDR 333
GFX: Leadtech GeForce 4 ti4200 128mb
HDD/s: 2x 80gb Seagare Barracudas IDE, 1x 120gb WD sATA
Case: Random black cheap tower
PSU: Tagan 480w

NEW SPECS
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Retail
Memory: Corsair 2gb Dominator PC2-6400 C4 Kit (2x 1gb)
GFX: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX 768mb
HDD/s: WD Raptor X 150gb & 120gb WD (from old machine)

Any comments, suggestions please before I finalise the order for my new PC, also seeing Im spending £1400 Im hoping there will be a huge performance increase!

Thanks
Mike

I recommend the Corsair 620W PSU, I have the 520W at the moment.

I have that cpu but I have paired it with the Abit AW9D-Max Motherboard but a lot of people here with the E6600 are using the Asus PW5 (I think that is what it's called). A browse through the motherboard forum here will give you a lot more opinions on it.

Gfx and RAM seem fine to me, but I wouldn't use the stock cooler that comes with the e6600 as it's no good for even moderate overclocking I have found.

Hi

Thanks for the information, in regards to the PSU Ive always used tagan based PSU's in my system and in some ways have become a bit of a fanboy of their work as ive never encountered a problem with their products of after service.

However what Im having issues with is the motherboard, two of my fellow university students are using the GB DQ6 motherboard and have nothing but good words for it, have been looking at some other boards but everyboard has good and bad reactions to it.

In terms of the cooling, I will be upgrading from the retail fan about 2 weeks after I get the system so will order another cooler when I purchase the monitor, however its got to be purchased in 2 bits due to finances as I only have £1400 on the first spend.

So motherboard recommendations, hit me lol :) cheers for any advice

Thanks
Mike
