So, I own a HD4890 with a nice tidy Zalman HSF thingy. Only problem is, at lower than stock speeds its getting VERY hot. Fan on 100% (is any-way as its 2pin) and card doing 80% work, I'm hitting 110-C on the temps . This is worrying as I own a HAF 932 with the side, front and rear fans on 100% thus creating a lot of air-flow. Now I'm thinking this is way way way to high. I have re-seated the HSF a few times now and it's not really doing anything. Anything else I can do for it guys?

That is hot, my 4890 dont even touch 80 under heavy gaming  do you have heatsinks on the vrm`s, perhaps they are getting hot, what thermal paste are you using??

Yes I do, and it's got the cool-labs liquid metal on it atm. Waiting for some IC Diamond 24Carat from OCUK, will do a re-seat with that, but I'm not expecting anything :(

where does it exhaust from, cause i am sure you would be able to feel the heat physically? not sure what the thermal envelope is for the 4890, i have read some post about it poss going to about 120c, though not sure. Hopefully some-one who knows a bit more about this will reply.

Into the case, and yes, its gets VERY warm....

Sorry Jaffa cant think of nowt else it could be. Normally the steps i would do would be to check the things you have done. i normally use gpuz to monitor temps as it shows all the temps on the card, that way you might be able to see whats getting hot.

Um...looking at Gpuz, get ready!!

GPU TEMP (DISPIO) - 100-C
GPU TEMP (MEMIO) - 125-C
GPU TEMP (SHADER CORE) - 115-C

Surely the memory shouldnt be THAT hot?

i think he should see temps with stock fan again.

This is the stock fan, it came with the Zalman aftermarket fan allready, from the shop.

Also I would RMA, but im off work sick for a week with bronchitis, so I need it to keep myself sane :(.

Will re-seat AGAIN when my IC Diamond arives and have a jigger about with it all to see if the seperate sinks are loose/not contacting.

WOW.........That is toasty!!

Mine is,

GPU TEMP 59C
GPU MEM 60C
Shader core 57C

I reckon the card must be borked, has it not shutdown with a black screen yet?

Nope, its shut down many times with massive artifacts sometime BSODing with an ATIKMDAG error, and took forever to reboot, acting like a throttling CPU....

If you did rejig with the IC Diamond, would this void warranty and then you would not be able to rma?

How so? It has no 'VOID if removed' sticker?

The heat sink should be burning hot to the touch. I think its probably done to the TIM your using TBH.

And im using CL Liquid Metal, but will have a good through strip later in the week-end.

I think the TIM you are using is a hard to get off as it works it way into metal a mate of mine uses it on his cpu and says that it can be a nightmare. perhaps it is the TIM?

Perhaps so. We will see when I change it as soon as RM get my IC Diamond here. I have also noticed my CPU temp has gone upto 40~C idle, and thats under water with a 120.3, all though this may be caused by clogging in the blocks :/. I did want to put the 4890 under water aswell, but I'm thinking it's a waste if it's knackerd. May aswell just buy new when my chistmas bonus arrives.

Now...this is just WIERD!!

Did a full re-install of my ENTIRE system, partial rebuild, waiting on some tubing to re-do my loop. But I now have SANE temps on my GPU that has some basis boring ASUS gunge on...

Bear in mind previous my idle temps were about 40~C below what I posted.

Heres my current idle temps!!

GPU Temp (DISPIO) - 49.5 C
GPU Temp (MEMIO) - 54 C
GPU Temp (SHADERCORE) - 49 C

Odd?
