Greetings all,
I posted a few months back saying I wanted to replace my Z5500 with something else. However, through some research, a lot of people seem to think that my Z5500 are pretty good and maybe I have them set up incorrectly.
Maybe it’s just me and my ears, who knows. My previous post was regrading replacing my Z5500s and setup optimal for Movies, Youtube viewing, Music and Gaming with 5.1 Home Threater Setup. I understand that some formats such as music will only play in stereo.
However, I want to squeeze as much as I can out of my Z5500s, so thus, I have purchased some thicker speaker wire almost twice the usually size of the provided wire. I have noticed a very slight difference in audio quality, but that might just be my bias.
Anyway, I have my Z5500's connected to my Xonar D2X via Analog AND Digital Optical. I'm trying to figure out what the best setting or audio solution is, I just want a set it and forget it solution for all stuff, Movies, Music, Gaming.
So I wanted people’s thoughts regarding these different audio formats.
I have in my Xonar D2X the options for (I have the UNi Xonar lastest drivers with GX disabled);
Analog Output, 6 Speakers, at 44.1KHz - 192KHz
PCM, 6 Speakers, at 44.1KHz - 192KHz
Dolby Digital Live
DTS Interactive
I usually just have it set to Analog Output, 6 Speakers at 96Khz because I believe that’s what the Z5500 support. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I have the System input set to 6 CH, I saw someone post on the internet saying set it to 8CH because of 3D Games. But I thought that didn't make sense due to their only being 6 Speakers.
I have 7.1 Virtual off.
All other settings are pretty much default; I haven't really touched anything other than the main settings.
As for my Windows Playback Settings,
5.1 Surround
Center, Subwoofer and Side Pair
Full range speakers disabled (I'm assuming the speakers are not full range, again please correct me if I'm wrong)
24 Bit 96Khz (Again the speaker support thing)
Again, please let me know what settings and setup you think I should be using to improve my sound, if there is anything I can do. Maybe even replace my Xonar D2X? Thoughts?
I'm testing Analog, PCM, DTS and Dolby now playing music and movies in short bursts and switching between them, but honestly they all sound pretty much the same to my ears. But if someone was to point me in the right direction and I listened for a longer period, maybe then I would notice.
Thanks again for your time and assistance.
