Hi guys,
Did a search but couldnt find anything that relates to the problem I have, the topic is fairly vague but the issue a pain in the backside!!
this is my spec:
AMD Phenom II x2 550 BE
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD3p
8GB (x4 2gb modules) Corsair PC2 6400 DDR2
ATi HD4850
Hiper 580W PSU
Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
Windows last week after login decided to hang for a few minutes, after several pages of forums there was a suggestion of ATi/AMD drivers for the radeon causing an issue, removed the software and it appeared to work great.
I have unlocked the other two cores in my phenom ii (amd overdive reports all cores running fine, the Vcore is set as 1.35v as default) and the pc will post fine, boots and will work great all day long with gaming/web browsing. After I turn it off for the night and come to use it again the next day I can hit the power button and it will either fail to start (fan spins up for a moment then shuts itself off) or it will power up but no post or vga output! Only ways ive found around this are to remove the kettle plug or reset the bios if the first option doesnt work. If I select "dont save & exit" in the bios, the pc powers off and will not power on when the power button is pressed!
I reset the bios (to remove the core unlocking) and took out all but one module of ram and booted fine, went out and did some shopping for an hour or so, came home and tried the pc with the rest of the ram in. The BIOS then reported 6gb of ram (even though theres 8gb) reseated the ram and it reports 8gb again.
AMD overdrive reports ram only in slots 0,1 & 2 but CPUz reports all 4 modules!
Could it be not enough power? I've done a psu calc and generally I should have enough but this is an older PSU.
Could it be the motherboard dimm slot or the ram?
Any suggestions, experiences are welcome please. My next step is to move and test the ram modules individually and see what the system reports back (without the cpu unlocked)
cheers
