Hi, I dont know if anyone will be able to help me, I have just picked up my car from the MOT Test Centre and the blooming thing has failed!! It has failed on a few things, the lights are the wrong colour or something, but thats just a quick job that costs about £2!

The main thing it has failed on said

"Exhaust system has a major leak of exhaust gases"

Just wondering what this means exactly and whether anyone has idea how much it will set me back to repair. Its a 1.6 Ford Focus.

Many Thanks

It means your exhaust pipe has a hole in it! If its only a smallish hole, welding it up would be the very cheapest option but if its seriously gone then you are going to need to have it replaced, although how much of it you need to replace will depend on where the hole is!

Shouldnt cost too much to fix though :)

How can you have "the wrong colour lights"????

Extreme discolouration? Maybe her indicators have had the orange plastic bit fall off? Who knows :p

Usually means the amber bulbs are indicating white, or quite often pink stop/tail lights on cars with lexus rear lights. Often due to the paint on the bulb flaking away.

Ok thats not to bad then, I was imagining the entire exhaust having to be taken off and them charging enough to feed a small country for a year!

I dont know about the lights, Im a girl! That and i didnt really understand what he was telling me, but he said to get a different colour bulb or something!!

Thanks

What they said above :p If you don't know your way around a car, any garage will be able to tell you where it is at least leaking from.

Although kwik-fit aren't the ideal place to have the work carried out, they should be able to provide you with an idea of what is leaking (ask them to point it out :D )

Then get a price to laugh at and go to a trust local garage who will usually do the work far cheaper.

I was just worried because the man at the centre told me to take it to a garage, and i would have thought that he would be able to fix it! he normally does the repairs on cars!!!

Thanks

Prob best to ask him if he can fix it and if not if he could recommend somewhere that will.

Take the car to kwikfit or similiar (ATS etc) like said above and get them to look at it and point out the faulty part(s) of the exhuast systems and get a quote. Then pull out the yellow pages and start phoning around get quotes from local garages
