Good afternoon, I'm looking for a gaming rig that will play the most recent games for around £400, I'm hoping I will only require mobo memory and cpu, but we will see..

It's the inevitable moment that's been coming round for quite some time. new gaming requirements are minimum 6GB ram etc and Watch Dogs just laughs at my system and refuses to play!

My current specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)
XFX ATI HD 5870 1024 GDDR5
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX
150GB Western Digital 10000RPM 16MB Cache Raptor X
200GB SATA 150 Maxtor 8MB Cache Hard Drive
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
Coolermaster Real Power 700w Modular

My main question really is will i get away with just upgrading the mobo memory and cpu, or am i being silly?

I've been looking at these bundles:

Will my current graphics card do? It was the best at its time but that was about 5 years ago :/, and will i need a stronger psu?

I'll be getting a 1GB caviar when i get the money, but that can wait.

Thankyou for any help with this.

Chris

You need a minimum 2GB GPU these days as well (and higher for resolutions above 1920 x 1080). You can get by with your present one for now, even though it will limit you. Or you can go for a cheaper motherboard and squeeze a GTX 750Ti/R9 265 in.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £173.99
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750Ti WindForce OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £109.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £69.95
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
Total : £419.52 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You could use the stock cooler for now and worry about overclocking with an aftermarket cooler, later on.

Thanks Dan, appreciate the advice. I will have a look into that card now and compare it with what I've got.. I can tell i need more memory the new Wolfenstein textures are massive and have been slowing me down quite a bit..
