Need a little advice have a few questions don't understand anything about this geek stuff.

I have FTTC with the standard home hub 5 I believe it is, I would really like to update the router so I can have a guest network but mostly to stop the occasional lags while gaming and also just to educate myself a little bit on some basic router configs so here is where I am at.

I have this fascinating webpage www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/best-router-2020 so have a rough idea what I need but I really want a router with built in WI-FI as the basic home hub seems fine.
As far as I can tell something that should work is a Netgear R7000p router and this requires a modem so I have seen a DrayTek Vigor 130 ADSL2+/VDSL Modem

Can anyone please tell me if these will work together.

Next question if the above are fine if I then gave the new wireless network the same name and password as my existing homehub Wi-Fi would all the devices just connect.

This is my first post here so hope the above is all fine.

Thanks in advance.

The Netgear will work with the Vigor 130 but you can save yourself money and get one of the plethora of cheap second hand BTOR modems on eBay for less than £20 - it will make no difference.

If you give the Netgear the same SSID and password as your HH then yes your devices should reconnect just fine without reconfiguration.

Great stuff that's exactly what I needed to know, yes the Vigor 130 is something I have acquired for free as luck would have it :)

Many thanks for your time and quick reply much appreciated
