Some boards support SLI some don't?

sli is an nvidia thing and the makers have to pay to certify it., cheaper boards havnt got the option to pay the amount nvidia want so they dont support it

SLI requires a board to have at least a pair of 8x slots. Crossfire will work on a board with a 16x/4x configuration. This is why SLI is not available on the cheaper boards although Gigabyte and MSI both do a SLI board for less than £100.

I think he means having the capability of both sli and cross fire. I think it is because nvidia and amd are not playing nice and its their way of keeping their own fans. Definitely a marketing scheme

I explained why in the post above yours. SLI needs at least 8x/8x slots. Cheaper boards have 16x/4x which is only enough for crossfire. Break through the £100 barrier and most boards support both.
