Was in Brighton for a over the weekend. Weather wasn't great so didn't fancy braving the pier and sea front. Had my camera while walking around the town and took a few, best results are below

This has minimal PP as generally I don't keep the forced pose shots as I like the candid style better. But these guys were actually fun and I think rather mullered at the time.

I'm also not a fan of these 'sailor hats' or 'stripy t-shirt' photos that folk seem to be into lately.
Anyway, I'm off to the hovis forum to let them know I'm not a fan of brown bread, hopefully they won't find my post completely pointless...

The point is that personally, I don't like these kind kind of shots. Not a problem is it?

And I think his point is that you probably should have known what to expect coming into this thread. Now that we've all made our points...

pointless post is pointless ?

why bother coming in when thread clearly states they are candid. That's like asking someone to punch you in the balls and then complaining afterwards that it hurt. If you don't like them then don't bother posting or looking rather than just putting a +1 drivel post in. its quite simple really.............

OK, fair play, maybe I shouldn't have come into thread. To be honest I didn't read the title properly and just saw the word Brighton and clicked on it.

As for "If you don't like them then don't bother posting or looking" that's just silly. I wasn't aware of any such rule where you are only allowed to comment if you like something.

To be fair all i said was i'm not a fan of this style of photography, so not sure what the fuss is really. I wasn't directly criticising your work. Why do you consider my viewpoint as pointless because it's not one of praise?

Accidents happen, but that's what the 'back' button is for.

Are you trying to justify being pointless by pretending the objection was about something it clearly isn't?

See below.

I cannot speak for the Op, however your opinion is pointless. I'll try to explain a little more obviously than I did a few posts up where perhaps you missed my point.
As photographers we like different genres, sports, portraiture, journalism.. the list goes on. Not everyone will like every genre (that much must be obvious), however just because someone doesn't like a particular genre, doesn't make it somehow wrong, it just means it's not for them.
What you did is tantamount to going to a car show and declaring your not a fan of cars. Quite rightly people would question why you were even at the show, some with less patience may not even be so polite.
Similarly your post offered nothing of value, substance or interest. So how else would you describe it? other than bad manners perhaps...

And regarding not criticising his work, on the contrary, if you had actually offered critique of his work (although your probably not the ideal person to offer it considering your not a fan of the genre), that wouldn't have been pointless, and may have stood a chance of being a worthwhile and constructive post.

Street photography is only good in my opinion when it tells a story or gives insight into what happened. Based on that, I like 3 and 4 the most.

[SIGH] Is this in depth analysis really needed!? I made a so called pointless comment. If it were indeed that pointless then why wasn’t it just ignored?

For me this episode sums up internet forums, too many keyboard warriors. The way I try to conduct myself on forums is how I would conduct myself in a real social situation.

Imagine, if you will, that wildman (or whatever his real name is) had brought his candid pictures into this place of work, an office perhaps, and he’s there showing them to his colleagues. If one of those colleagues (me) had said something along the lines of not my cup of tea wildman or I don’t like street photos (perfectly reasonable comment to make) would we expect wildman to jump down my throat branding my opinion pointless in front of everyone? I doubt it. Do we think a debate would then erupt in the office discussing the finer points of the comment? Again, I doubt it. More likely wildman would have said ‘each to their own’ and moved on, like should have happened here..

Tbh, I was only trying to help you, that was my main point. It just seemed you wasn't grasping what was being said.

The way I try to conduct myself on forums is how I would conduct myself in a real social situation.

Good, glad I could help try to fix that for you.

Edit:
That will teach me for not reading until the end, seems your still not grasping it by comparing completely different scenarios.
Oh well, you can't feed africa...

In this analogy, the OP is sitting at his desk where he works on street candid photography. Everyone knows that this is what he is doing. Everyone knows that this corner of the office is where the street candid photography happens.

Then his colleague went over there and took a dump all over his desk.

If someone took a dump on my desk, I'd be a bit annoyed too. Though I know some people pay extra for this privilege, so you know. Different people have different opinions.

I have no problems acting on the forums like I act in real life.
