Some computers to play with, but what should i do?

Hi there,

I am going to be acquiring some old computers, (P3 500's) should be about 4 of them.

I just want to play about, maby set up a few types of servers etc, but unsure what to really try for, or what to be using?

any ideas with what could be done?

Try linux or other things you haven't tried before.

If you can solder then try some voltmods and see if you can get a 2ghz p3 or something.

There's loads of possibilities.

Folding farm

File / webservers? not to hard to set up, have a try with linux as well as said

Well i dont have the steadyiest hand, but i can solder of some sorts. will check on google for how2's.

Are they knowing for being good clockers? 500MHz --> 2GHz is a huge jump!

Ye will give linux a go, any varient good just now? also how is linux for setting up a server on?

Already got my main computer folding in the background, so when i get them all set up i my well leave them folding in there spair time.

Ipcop with URLfilter and Advanced Proxy addons. And if that floats your boat then modify/customise it some more.

I hate to say this but there most likely isn't any point. They probably won't even finish WU's by their deadlines.

I've got a P3 700Mhz Laptop with hardly any ram running it non-stop. It'll get a small WU done in 5 days, well before deadline. Not amazing, but an extra bonus none the less.

I'd say it's worth it on any computer.
