I'm struggling to find a decent JRPG, I know they are remaking FF7, but I'm hoping for something now. I love Square Enix's RPG's, so certainly that style, long story, character progression, turn based etc.

Recently tried Tales of Zesteria but ultimately got bored of it.

Graphics don't bother me when it comes to JRPG's, but at least to be played full screen with at least 1080p with a controller would be amazing as then I can sit on the sofa and play on the TV.

Any suggestions?

FF9?
Last Remnant?
Slightly off topic from a JRPG, but what about Valkyria Chronicles?

Ah, should have mentioned, I want a fantasy based universe, as in, magic, monsters etc. Valkyria from what I know is WWII based with modern (well, sort of) weapons and stuff.

The Last Remnant perhaps?

Other pick would be Legend of Heroes maybe. Haven't played a typical JRPG in years. The last one was FFXV which could've been an absolutely epic game but ended up quite a letdown because of the story and invisible barriers/awful sidequests.

I am Setsuna and Atelier Firis:The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey are also pretty good JRPG's.

I was also going to suggest Tales of Berseria but if you didn't like Zestiria then you probably won't like that either.

Nothing beats FFX though if you want classic turn based JRPG action.

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky series has 3 games with very good reviews and a new one coming out in August i think.

Came here to suggest the same. I have only dabbled in the first trails in the sky but it seems good so far! Everyone praises it for its story and strong dialogue (there is a fair bit of it)

Most have already been mentioned like Legend of Heroes which is a +1 from me. Unfortunately turned based combat seems to be a dying breed these days with most developers going for real time.

Like yourself, I also love JRPG's so your best bet would be installing PCSX2 PS2 emulator and playing the classics.

Dragon Quest VIII
Persona 3 & 4
Shin Megami Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 , Nocturne
Valkyrie Profile 2 : Silmeria
Suikoden 3 & 5
Shadow Hearts 1 , 2 & 3
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
Xenosaga 1, 2 and 3
Rogue Galaxy

PCSX2 PS2 is a great program and plays nearly all games flawlessly.
