Not scarey as in fill your pants scarey but scarey like, dude, do you even realise there is a world outside?

Was playing some EverQuest2 tonight, bunch of friends were on and we were hitting a zone called Karnor's Castle, Eq1 vets will recognise the name I'm sure :) Anyway, we had fought our way down to a named mob for a quest update, had a good little fight and killed him on our second attempt after I *ahem* screwed up the last try.

There was another mob some of our group needed not far away, he was showing on my tracking so off we trotted to go kill him, we get to the room and find somebody had already engaged the mob and locked the encounter, now alywas interested to see how people solo the harder mobs we stood around to watch, the guy in question then piped up with 'I'm not gonna wipe so GTFO' which we felt was obviously a little rude, comments were exchanged and I made a comment that I shouldn't have done, it was nothing really bad, I just called him a <four letter word, begins with T, not sure if it's considered swearing here or not...>

After about five minutes had passed I sent him a tell to apologise as I really don't like to be rude to people at all, this is the conversation that followed, while the convo was going on I happened to be looking up the guy on eqplayers.com to discover that the character was created Mar 7, 2005 and has logged a total of 495 days 12 hours 18 minutes played

You tell Persiius, "There was no need for my comment just now, sorry."
Persiius tells you, "just now? wht would that be for?"
You tell Persiius, "i got slightly annoyed at your attitude to our group in the cells, it was uncalled for regardless of what others may have done to you in the past"
Persiius tells you, "dude did you even inspect me?"
You tell Persiius, "why, all we did was watch"
You tell Persiius, "is there something wrong with watching someone take down a mob now?"
Persiius tells you, "cause if u did you'd have seen im not a random nob who just comes in game"
You tell Persiius, "again, what has that got to do with anything?"
Persiius tells you, "means that i dont get offended by people who think they're gonna act asses so no need to be sorry, its a game who cares"
You tell Persiius, "well the only person acting like an ass in this instance was you"
Persiius tells you, "not used to it? not my problem dude"
You tell Persiius, "quit smoking the weed dude"
Persiius tells you, "not smoking weed affects my gaming ability during raids"
You tell Persiius, "there is no need to be so blatantly rude and hostile, as you say, its only a game"
Persiius tells you, "how about not being carebears and when u decide to be rude just stick to it"
You tell Persiius, "has nthing to do with it whatsoever, its called common decency"
You tell Persiius, "you obviously fail to understand that which is why you spend your entire life playing a game"
Persiius tells you, "probably the reason i play to standards which will never be yours"

Yes I was being a bit of an idiot too, but 495 days in 3 years!?!?!? Why in the 'verse (on earth just doesn't cut it tbh) would I ever want to spend that much time to play to his standards? Would any of you, have any of you ever played that much for so long?

Take into account a few hours here and there for sleep, food and toiletries and that leaves you with what for life?

As I said, scarey

EDIT: Maybe people will read that part now...

I think the most hours i've racked up was on Mohaa, and that was around 100 hours in a couple of months. Average of 30 hours a week on CS:S too.

But that's just a waste of a year and a bit! :O

Bloke was probably a thirty something who is making a living out of farming items for plat now to sell to the gold sellers. Total no lifer in otherwords :P I have played EQ1, SWG and WoW for ungodly amounts of times but i've been clean for a year now :P never again, MMO's are such a waste of life.

It could be a shared account or something. That is an insane amount of time for one person to be doing anything, let alone playing a computer game.
I managed to clock up about 30 days over a year on WoW before I quit. I thought I played a lot :|

Maybe he's Korean? :D

Maybe he doesn't like the outside world? With the number of users using the internet now and pretty much everyone on Earth having access to it theres bound to be some nutters floating about gaming 24/7. What ever floats your boat i suppose :D.

hahah try battlefield 2 mate, theirs plenty on their who think their John Rambo reincarnated, and the second you PWN those guys that have 2000+ hrs in game they get very upset, cry, swear and ultimately get kicked :)

All in all a typical game of BF2 :D

other than, well, the amount of time he plays being a little weird, which to be fair, for all you know he's disabled and has not much else going on. Or he works for them and spends a lot of time online helping people, or he simply leaves it open while doing other work so he can chat to friends in game which i know a LOT of people seem to do. Well having a go at him for that is a bit of a cop out.

AS for the acting like an ass, having played wow a little and some other games, generally if theres a group around and you're killing a named mob and they AREN'T helping, its mostly because they want the kill themselves and its quicker to hope someone wipes than wait for a respawn often(not played EQ so not a clue in that game). But when some group stands around "watching" its rarely a good thing to be fair and i don't see what he said as that bad considering that.

Then to be honest, again he had a point, you called him a name, he said, stick to it and didn't really need or care about an apology.

to sum up, you have not a single clue why he plays so much, and you did what in most MMO's is considered a fairly rude/mean thing. Not played lotro in months now but if i was taking a quest signature/elite and some group came and waited for me to die rather than helping i found it irritating as do a lot of people. If i come across someone going for a mob i want, i help out, gets it dead quicker. You might have just been watching wanting to see, but you didn't help either..

mm not into them sort of games but after reading the conversation he came across ok as far as i can see and it seemed to be you who made it into a problem by the end of it all, he was very chilled about the whole thing.

just my opin.
thanks jay.

Have to say the conversation seemed to be him acting cool and the OP kind of messing things up.

Apart from his hours in game he seems fine.

Then again I think I'm bad with 100+ hrs of TF2 since the beta released.

True, but having a go at him? Come on he was being rude and arrogant, or did you miss his initial comment? As for it being a cop out, I already admitted that I was being an idiot so you're not posting anything I haven't already said.

What's your point here? either he wipes at which point it matters not, or he doesn't at which point it matters not. It makes no difference whatsoever wether we were stood there or not and us being there just gives him a chance to show off is about all.

No, I was brought up to apologise for my actions when they are rude and uncalled for, which is what I did.

No, I don't have a clue, and neither do you, either way it is still a huge amount of time to have been logged into a single game and that is what my post was really about. As for it being considered rude, that just doesn't say much for the games and servers you have picked for MMO's to be honest.

Not played lotro in months now but if i was taking a quest signature/elite and some group came and waited for me to die rather than helping i found it irritating as do a lot of people. Lotro is a different game with a different community, I play on a Roleplay server which is again different. As for not helping, he locked the encounter so all we could actually do would have been to res him if he had died and the only way to help was to stand, waiting and watching. But then I didn't give that information in the original post.

I think you both missed my point.

You did come off like one of those guys who correct people's grammar in chat rooms and warn people about removing swears from ocuk cause it gives you kicks.... can't believe you apologised for calling him a t....

i can understand if there is a risk of getting banned for swearing or something?

maybe that guy has no legs and one arm or something...never know, but living in an mmo might be his only release
