Herrow fellow forum dwellers! I have been working on a proposed upgrade plan for my computer as I have the upgrade itch but not the funds to throw at it all in one go. I propose to buy the new build in parts (although I do appreciate that a cpu/mobo/ram will often be bought together).

I really rather like to make manageable yet cost effective decisions with this. However I am currently toying with the idea of a case/fans/rad space to accommodate the new build as 120mm fans and radiators don't go out of date :P

Current System:

i7 2600K @ 4.6GHz
Gigabyte P67A-UD4
16gb 4x4bg Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
2x Asus DCII OC 660 2gb in SLI
Coolermaster Silent Pro 850W
128gb SSD (boot drive - Crucial M300 i think)
500gb 2.5inch mechanical drive (storage)
2tb external storage.

System is currently sat in a Cubitek Tattoo Fire case (which I now realise is a little cramped!) My CPU is cooled with a custom WC loop, EK supreme HF, D5 pump, Phobya G-Changer 140mm radiator, EK basic 150 res, Tygon R3603 tube.

Temps are currently fine, its a bit noisy, I am yet to discover its true origins. The case fans are all Prolimatech 140mm red vortex and the rear fan is a coolermaster Mach 120mm airplane style fan, it looked cool at the time honest...

I may even throw in a picture for you!

Currently using a G19 Keyboard and Performance MX mouse.
Samsung 24inch screen 1920x1200 for gaming and 2 17inch dell panels 1024x1280 either side.

And yes I am aware that I need to get some of Rich's fabulous air dusters before someone says something!

I know that looking at the current array of hardware that upgrading full bore would not improve my experience a great deal which is why I thought I would seek council from the forum.

Go easy on her, shes had a tough life! :)
Thanks in advance.

I was looking at getting the Enthoo Pro, H440 or Corsair 750D as a starting point (looking more and more and the phanteks tbh)

Possibly getting a new SSD? Crucial 256gb one in this week only is a rather tasty price!

The moment I get a case I will need to get a radiator too, at the moment I have my 1.140 mounted into the optical drive holders with the res mounted on the backside of it.

I kinda like 140mm fans because of the quietness, However with the phanteks having the PWM hub I'd be more than happy to buy the fans to go with it. I think the corsair fans with the red rings have been rather overdone though sorry. even SP120 push and AF120 pull I just have my reservations about how much it has been done, I have no doubt that they are fantastic fans.

I did say something like that about the old Scythe GT's too... maybe I should just get with the current trend?

Right then, ill bump my own thread

Small update:

I got a 750D silly cheap B-Grade (broken front panel clip) can't see anything else wrong with it. Which is fine as I am planning on making a full acrylic custom front anyway!

New proposal:

Short term upgrade until something truely remarkable comes along (as previously discussed like SSD / GPU) and put my current build into the new case, tidy it up and put it into the new Mobo Asus Max4E

or

Finance a new build in my custom case trying not to leave my current system completely redundant. Perhaps reusing my CPU block and the D5 pump/tube res to save a little gold. thinking X99 to adopt the new DDR4 cant think I would ever go for more than 2xSLi though so im guessing the 28lane CPU would be absolutely fine? or get the new workstation ASUS board which looks the dogs danglies?

Guessing a budget of 1,500 for the components (CPU, MOBO, RAM, PSU, GPU (2 ideally) and some storage as I have no real reusable HDD's

yeah a fair suggestion I think.

Being that I dont game at massive resolutions I think that the GPU and SSDs are the ideal middle ground. ill budget perhaps around £500 for the upgrade to the system I think as I will be spending around 200 for additional watercooling components. Perhaps my friend would like the upgrade of my 660SLi too so perhaps I can fund something a little more.

im currently using a 1920x1200 24inch samsung, 2x17 1280x1024 dells in portrait either side. not in full nvidia surround though as the resolutions are different. so all my gaming is at 1920x1200
