As I found myself with no events to attend today I just couldnt let a nice day go without taking some shots.:)

Not being a landscape photographer I took these from not too far away from my home.

Comments please..:)

Nice shots but i feel that they would look better if you hosted them at a higher quality ;) What are those things in that first shot?

That would be the radar listening station at Menwith Hill in Yorkshire. Given that it's on british soil but actually a U.S. listening post run by the U.S. National Security Agency busterboy was probably either brave or foolish standing and taking photos of it. Oops busterboy has just disappeared and had his identity deleted... ;)

The bottom one doesn't look quite level to me? I think they could be improved with more interesting sky :) How about going and trying again when there are a few interesting cloud formations around?

I've not tried landscape shots yet, but am looking to give it a go when i can motivate myself!

nice shots m8 but a word of warning about the menwith hill one, take it down the reason i say this is that i had a picture like yours on my devart page and i got an email from the devart team saying they where taking it of the site due to security reasons, it was about 8 months after 9/11 and there was no proper detail of the place but it could have been used for the layout of the place. like i said m8 just a friendly warning :)

Thats just being paranoid. Any Tom, Dick or Harry could travel to the same location and take some shots.
Agreed. There really is no danger at all - I've got a few shots of Menwith Hill myself. Sure, if you get too close, there is CCTV on the fences but that's just standard practice.

Busterboy ... you live near to me but you seem to get out and about quite a lot with your camera. Where are the most photogenic / most interesting places locally (not harewood house, ripley castle etc)? I've lived in Ripon for about 9 years before moving to Knaresborough, but I really don't know the area at all with a mind for pictures :o. // EDIT // Looking at people's names, that applies to steveo too :)

its called national security i have been an army brat for a good 8 years of my life so i no about it. yes i agree any tom, dick or harry could go to this places and take pictures but what about the people that cant get to them do u think that the internet is used safely and that it doesnt course any harm to any body

A.N.Other knaresborough has some gorgous sites for photography its amazing what u can find in your own town, places like brimham rocks, fountains abbey, studly park are great places to visit (i go often just for the deer) but i think u can pick up a national park guide in whsmith for the local area for about 5/10 pound

I dont want to hijack (oh the irony) this thread but thats taking it a step too far. And theres no need for the roll eyes. Being in the RAF reserves I know all about national secruity myself. One single picture, among 8 billion websites isnt a case for national secruity. It truly is down to being paranoid and the British Armed Forces are heading the same direction as the yanks in this regard. It needs to be sorted out.

Anyway, sorry to the OP but I always stand my ground in a debate.

King.

Ahhh, yes, i tihnk ive heard of that, ty for telling me :)

There really isn't a problem with pictures of it - just look at google maps, multimap, streetmap etc. They all have plans of it, not just horizontal photos.

However, the security at that place is amazing! My mother applied for a teaching place there and she said it took about 30 mins to get through the various levels of security - guards with rifles etc escorting her about .

From what I know most of the secret bits of Menwith are underground, it is the home to 10,000+ US servicemen/women and is the largest town(?) in the UK that doesn't appear on Ordnance Survey Maps.
