Some Halo3 vids

These are clips from the campaign(just showing a battle so not much of a spoiler) showing the replay feature.

I'm glad Bungie are bringing something new to the table with Halo 3.

I'm going to love this feature.

Sorry if its a repost.

What's the release date for this? I might book a week off work to play it if I can get Bioshock finished in time.

**edit**

Never mind, looks like last week or so of the month. I'll get it booked now otherwise I might find myself ringing in sick :P

Hey that looks sweet!
The guy in the second video is right though, there are going to be thousands of files of uploaded content. I wonder how bungie will deal with all that.

hhmmmmmm I watch a video on this, apparently the technique they are using will just give a set of rules and code that can re-inact the replay using the game build on the persons console.

So your not sending the entire cake (video), just the recipe (code) for it.

Logically it seems ok, but not sure if its correct :p pretty sure that would save lots of memory

It's how movies are done in Valve games, they take the movement code and run it through the console command window. An old idea but not utilized enough.

wow I thought that I was on the right lines! I always wondered why people hadn't thought of that before!

That's the way it's been done for years. Heck, starcraft used user input data for replays and that came out in 1998.

Patches often break replays though unless they keep track of what version the replay was made in and allow the replay to boot in the old version of the game.

Another example would be the replays in the Gran Turismo games. It's a very simple, elegant and efficient method, especially clear when Gran Turismo 1 on the PSX could do it for its endurance races which often lasted hours and hours.
