Firstly hi!
I currently work for a company who supply parts to various companies for SLA contracts etc. My duties basically include testing of various hardware components in a very wide range of machine types, IBM RS6000/pseries/netfinity/as400 aswell as HP/compaq ML/DL servers, tape libraries and laptops.

The idea is if a customer phones up and asks for a part, the order is despatched and i test the part before it leaves to ensure its working etc. Aswell as this i test/repair complete servers/tape libraries etc Jack of all trades, master of none .... although im quite handy with tape drives :)

However im looking to move on, im paid peanuts and have worked for the same company for close to 8 years. Im pretty much self taught and IMO good at what i do. Ideally i see myself in a support/field engineer role, i want more responsibility (and more money :) ). Ive been looking around for jobs on Monster, however im wondering if there are any "better" sites out there for IT related type jobs?

I have another problem, i pretty much left school with good grades A-C in all my GCSE's and went to college to do a GNVQ BTEC Advanced in Engineering to which i achieved a Merit. I then pretty much got this job at the age of 18 straight out of college. Im also lacking in the software department, basic windows stuff is all i know.

So im just wondering if any hardware field engineers in here (if there are any) or anybody really has any tips for someone like me? Best IT related type job websites etc

Cheers for reading.

EDIT
Forgot to mention, i handed my notice in today. In hindsight not the best move but i reached my limit today. I may withdraw my resignation tomorrow until ive sorted out where/what im going to do.

jobserve.co.uk? - list ANY IT job in your area, make a list of agencies and contact them all with your C.V.- you will need to keep good list however so you dont keep ringing the same person... - DONT tell any of them you have registered with another agency.

I made a database of about 60 agencies in only about 1 month, I was in a panic to get a job I registered with them ALL

you need to get the right words onto your CV as they will feed in into a program that word checks it so if you add ' I am working towards MCSE' if they search for MCSE your CV will come up.. (this was the case 5 years ago anyway I assume its the same process) my exact example may not be the best but the general idea is there..

look at http://www.sadikhov.com/ if you want to get some qualifications.. I can pass each MS Exam even on something I know nothing about with 2-4 days (20-40 hours reading) and im not smart.. and im crap at readng.. a couple of MCP's on the CV will get your into the running for a lot more jobs..
