Hi everyone, I'm in the process of selecting my components for a gaming pc, I read a lot of suggested specs and see the following two motherboards recommended frequently depending on budget.

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** LOWEST UK PRICE **

I was just wondering if someone would mind explaining the advantages of the more expensive board for a gamer, is it really worth the extra 55 pounds?

Also are there any others boards around those prices worth considering?

thanks in advance,
JJ

The major difference is that the Extreme4 Gen3 has support for PCI-E 3.0 which the new generation of graphics cards (out late this year/early next year) are going to use (although I believe the will be backwards compatible?)

Indeed, the ASRock has support for Gen 3 PCI-E and IVY Bridge cpu's but at the moment not sure the Gigabyte can manage this.

One thing todo is check each website and see if they have the feature you require.

I would be inclined to go with the ASRock, at least it gives you the possibility of updating to PCI-E 3 and Ivy Bridge, at the moment I am not sure how Gigaybyte stand.
